Marcella Jurczyszyn was born 4/21/1897 in a small town near, but not
in the mountains. She entered the U.S. as a citizen of Austria around 1913
and was illiterate at the time of arrival. Therefore, the spelling of her
last name could be questioned.
Her parents were Jacob and Tekla Jurczyszyn. We think he was the village
weaver. Marcella was sent to live with a sister in Newark, NJ. There may
have been another sibling in the U.S. or Canada. One or more siblings remained
in Poland. One sister survived both wars and was living in what was Germany
in the late 1970's. She was relocated during a war and could not return
to her home.
