Strubowiska/Smerek Surnames
I am searching for the descendants of Teodor Warcholak family that originated
in the village of Strubowiska and surrounding villages of Gmina Cisna,
Austria-Hungary, now southeastern Poland. The surname has also been spelled
as Warholic, Warholick, Warholak, Varholak, and Varkholjak.
Teodor's three grandsons: John(Iwan), George(Jurko), and Wasco(Wasyl) came
to America during the 1907-1912 period and settled in the villages of Beccaria,
Smoke Run and Janesville, in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.
I am also interested in sharing information about related families that
originated in Strubowiska and the neighboring villages of Jaworzec, Luh,
Smerek, Kalnica, Przyslup, and Dolzyca -- many who also immigrated to Clearfield
County, Pennsylvania. These villages were all destroyed after World War
II and the remaining inhabitants were relocated to Ukraine and northern
and western Poland.
Some surnames I have encountered in my research on these villages include:
Andrejko, Barnyk, Beca, Berezowski, Berezanski, Bihun, Bilas, Buber, Buchwak,
Bunga, Cygan, Dobysz, Ficor, Frycz, Gyda, Hawrylo, Hodowaniec, Holobinka,
