Grandfather, Onufri Bilinsky emigrated to US around 1916 to Charleroi, PA and worked in coal mines and steel mills. Grandmother, Olena (nee Maleska) emigrated in about 1929 with daughters Mary and Katerina to join Onufri. (They were detained for almost a week at Ellis Island because of an eye infection and some difficulty with paperwork.)
Family moved to Philadelphia in '30's. Grandfather passed from Black Lung Disease in 1940. Grandmother passed in early '80's.
Would like to know if any family is still in the original area where I understand at one time a very large farm was owned. This was a family of peasant farmers and I am interested in visiting the area which I am assuming is still very rural.
I have not been able to find either of the villages, Lokovo or Lawke on any maps. I am told by my aunt, Kathryn, that a very large church stood at the top of the hill from the village. She is the only surviving family member.
